Give each guest a sheet with five lighthearted prompts and an envelope. Decide whether predictions will be opened later that night or saved for a future gathering.
What you need
- Paper
- Envelopes
- Pencils
A phone timer is handy for timed rounds. Set out supplies before guests arrive, and give the group one practice turn if the rules are new to them.
How to play
- Ask everyone to write guesses that are playful and kind. Keep answers about themselves or neutral topics.
- People may read one prediction aloud if they wish, then seal the rest in an envelope with their name.
- If opening tonight, include immediate predictions such as the first snack to run out or the next song chosen.
- At the chosen time, open and compare. Award a point per correct immediate prediction if you want a score; long-term hopes do not need judging.
Prompts and round ideas
- A new hobby I might try
- A food I want to learn to make
- A place I hope to visit
- The first snack to disappear tonight
- A song someone will request
Make it work for your group
For children, invite drawings instead of written answers. For an office event, use team traditions and harmless shared predictions.
A host’s note
Do not ask guests to predict pregnancies, relationships, income, health, or anyone else’s private life.
Plan your party flow
Explain the aim before handing out supplies, then demonstrate one turn. Let guests join as a player, helper, or spectator. Stop while the group is still enjoying the game rather than adding extra rounds just to fill time.
