Give everyone two slips. On one, they write a small thing they are grateful for; on the other, a favorite everyday moment. Ask them to avoid names and highly private details.
What you need
- Paper slips
- Pencils
- Bowl
A phone timer is handy for timed rounds. Set out supplies before guests arrive, and give the group one practice turn if the rules are new to them.
How to play
- Collect and mix all the slips. The host reads one aloud without showing the handwriting.
- Everyone except the author writes the name of the person they think submitted it.
- The author reveals themselves. Each correct guess earns one point. The author does not score on their own slip.
- Read one slip from each person before moving to the second set. You can also skip scores and enjoy the stories.
Prompts and round ideas
- A tiny thing that made this week better
- A favorite ordinary moment
- A comforting food
- A place that feels peaceful
- Something useful you learned
- A kind thing someone did
Make it work for your group
Young children can dictate answers to a helper. For coworkers, keep prompts light and unrelated to personal finances or family circumstances.
A host’s note
Let people pass or replace a prompt. Gratitude games work best when nobody is required to disclose something emotional.
Plan your party flow
Explain the aim before handing out supplies, then demonstrate one turn. Let guests join as a player, helper, or spectator. Stop while the group is still enjoying the game rather than adding extra rounds just to fill time.
