Make two equal supply stations with one empty box, paper, and tape per team. Precut paper to a workable size. Keep scissors at a separate adult-run station if extra cutting is needed.

Players: 4–16Play time: About 20 minutesBest fit: Ages 8+

What you need

A phone timer is handy for timed rounds. Set out supplies before guests arrive, and give the group one practice turn if the rules are new to them.

How to play

  1. The first teammate folds paper around the box for 30 seconds, then steps back.
  2. The second teammate tapes for 30 seconds. The next folds the ends, and the next finishes the package. For smaller teams, cycle through again.
  3. Give each team the same four turns. When time ends, judge using a visible checklist: box covered, ends closed, tape holds, and ribbon attached.
  4. Award one point for each completed checklist item. A tie is a tie; open the boxes afterward and reuse them.

Prompts and round ideas

Make it work for your group

For pairs, have each person take two turns. For a noncompetitive version, work together to wrap donation gifts only after practicing on empty boxes.

A host’s note

Use empty boxes so nobody’s real gift is damaged. The relay is about taking turns, not running.

Plan your party flow

Explain the aim before handing out supplies, then demonstrate one turn. Let guests join as a player, helper, or spectator. Stop while the group is still enjoying the game rather than adding extra rounds just to fill time.
