Crumple nine sheets of scrap paper into soft balls. Set three baskets at increasing distances and mark a throwing line. Label baskets one, two, and three points.

Players: 2–12Play time: About 15 minutesBest fit: Ages 5+

What you need

A phone timer is handy for timed rounds. Set out supplies before guests arrive, and give the group one practice turn if the rules are new to them.

How to play

  1. Each player takes three throws from behind the line.
  2. Count only balls that stay inside a basket. If a ball bounces out, it earns zero.
  3. Retrieve all balls after each turn and record the total.
  4. Play three rounds. The highest combined score wins; tied players can share the win or take three bonus throws.

Prompts and round ideas

Make it work for your group

Move the line closer or use a wider basket for younger players. A seated toss is equally valid; adjust distance to suit the group.

A host’s note

Throw toward the baskets only. Remove breakable items and leave a clear path for retrieving balls.

Plan your party flow

Explain the aim before handing out supplies, then demonstrate one turn. Let guests join as a player, helper, or spectator. Stop while the group is still enjoying the game rather than adding extra rounds just to fill time.
