Hide ten large paper shapes in shared, accessible rooms. Draw a pumpkin, bat, cat, hat, moon, star, broom, leaf, ghost, and spider. Give each team a list of the shapes.
What you need
- Paper
- Pencils
- Orange paper decorations
A phone timer is handy for timed rounds. Set out supplies before guests arrive, and give the group one practice turn if the rules are new to them.
How to play
- Explain the search boundaries and keep bedrooms, cabinets, stairs, and outside areas out of play.
- Teams search together and write down the location of each shape without moving it.
- After 10 minutes, bring everyone back and compare lists. Each correct location earns one point.
- If teams tie, share the win. Finish by walking the route together so everyone sees the hiding places.
Prompts and round ideas
- Pumpkin near a bookshelf
- Bat beside a lamp
- Cat under a chair edge
- Hat on a windowsill
- Moon on a door
- Star beside a cushion
- Broom near a coat hook
- Leaf on a picture frame
- Ghost beside a plant
- Spider on a table leg
Make it work for your group
For nonreaders, draw picture checklists. For older guests, replace the object list with clues that point to the same safe locations.
A host’s note
Place shapes where a child can see them without climbing. Use removable tape and keep all exits clear.
Plan your party flow
Explain the aim before handing out supplies, then demonstrate one turn. Let guests join as a player, helper, or spectator. Stop while the group is still enjoying the game rather than adding extra rounds just to fill time.
