Set three pumpkins on a flat surface, spread far enough apart that rings can land around a single stem. Mark an easy throwing line roughly three feet away and a second line farther back.
What you need
- Small pumpkins with sturdy stems
- Plastic toss rings
- Painter’s tape
A phone timer is handy for timed rounds. Set out supplies before guests arrive, and give the group one practice turn if the rules are new to them.
How to play
- Give the first player three rings and ask everyone else to stand behind the throwing line.
- A ring around the nearest stem earns one point, the middle stem two, and the farthest three. A leaning ring does not score.
- Record the total and retrieve rings only after the thrower has finished.
- Play three rounds per person and add all round scores. Ties share the win or play one extra round from the same line.
Prompts and round ideas
- Round one: nearest line
- Round two: choose your line
- Round three: same line for everyone
Make it work for your group
Use large upright bottles wrapped in orange paper if your pumpkins have short stems. Test that the rings fit before guests arrive.
A host’s note
Use lightweight rings and stable pumpkins. A seated throwing position works well; adjust the line so the challenge feels fair.
Plan your party flow
Explain the aim before handing out supplies, then demonstrate one turn. Let guests join as a player, helper, or spectator. Stop while the group is still enjoying the game rather than adding extra rounds just to fill time.
