Write one guest’s name on each paper heart. Give each player a name other than their own. Explain that compliments should be about kindness, effort, humor, or helpful actions.

Players: 4–14Play time: About 20 minutesBest fit: Ages 7+

What you need

A phone timer is handy for timed rounds. Set out supplies before guests arrive, and give the group one practice turn if the rules are new to them.

How to play

  1. Each person writes a kind, specific compliment for the named guest, without signing their own name.
  2. The host collects hearts and reads the recipient name and compliment aloud.
  3. The recipient may guess who wrote it or simply say thank you. Passing is welcome.
  4. Reveal the writer only if both people are comfortable. Finish when everyone has received one heart; no points are needed.

Prompts and round ideas

Make it work for your group

For classrooms, have an adult review messages before reading them. For adults who do not know each other well, use a brief getting-to-know-you round first.

A host’s note

Avoid comments about bodies, romantic interest, or popularity. Check that every guest receives a message.

Plan your party flow

Explain the aim before handing out supplies, then demonstrate one turn. Let guests join as a player, helper, or spectator. Stop while the group is still enjoying the game rather than adding extra rounds just to fill time.
