Prepare slips with one ordinary object on each. Seat everyone in a circle and explain that you will build one silly story together.
What you need
- Paper slips
- Pencils
- Paper bag
A phone timer is handy for timed rounds. Set out supplies before guests arrive, and give the group one practice turn if the rules are new to them.
How to play
- The first player draws a slip and begins the story with one or two sentences that include the object.
- The next player draws a new object and adds one or two connected sentences.
- Continue around the circle twice, keeping contributions brief enough that everyone gets a turn.
- The last person wraps up the story. No points are needed; give the story a title together.
Prompts and round ideas
- Umbrella
- Spoon
- Suitcase
- Rubber duck
- Telescope
- Sandwich
- Key
- Teapot
- Roller skate
- Pillow
- Bicycle
- Flowerpot
Make it work for your group
For shy guests, let partners contribute together. For a challenge, use a holiday setting but keep the object words ordinary.
A host’s note
Set a friendly tone and keep real guests out of embarrassing story roles. A player may swap a prompt if they get stuck.
Plan your party flow
Explain the aim before handing out supplies, then demonstrate one turn. Let guests join as a player, helper, or spectator. Stop while the group is still enjoying the game rather than adding extra rounds just to fill time.
